What is this group and its purpose?

The Clinton Landlords Association, CLA, is an organization of landlords and managers whose purpose is to:

  • Educated both landlords/managers and tenants as to their rights and responsibilities under the Iowa Tenant/Landlord Act.
  • Comply with all aspects of Local, State, and Federal Fair Housing Laws.
  • Promote the enforcement of Local, State, and Federal Laws beneficial to rental property owners and to free enterprise.
  • Participate for the purpose of mutual benefit in an exchange of information and experience with fellow members and other Landlord groups.
  • Disseminated useful information to all members and inspire them to further educate themselves in the practical features of their rental operations.
  • Standardize and adopt uniform practices and procedures by using commonly accepted forms such as Applications, Rental Agreements, Check-in/out, etc.
  • Advocate a Code of Ethics to maintain high professional standards and sound business.
  • Advance the general welfare of the rental property industry.
  • Encourage within the rental property industry a high appreciation of the objective and responsibilities of owners and operators in providing adequate privately owned housing.

  • Monthly meetings that provide a medium of exchange with others in the same business, a means of cooperation between competitors for mutual self interest, a forum in which your views can be expressed, and a way members can help shape policies and practices.

  • What is the Legislative Effort?

    Through the Landlords of Iowa, a paid lobbyist works full time during the Legislative session on behalf of the membership to:

  • Pass legislation that protects responsible tenants and private property rights.
  • Defeat legislation that adversely affects private property rights, decreases rights of owners or managers, or protects irresponsible tenants.
  • Who can be a member?

    Membership is open to any owner of rental property, managers of rental units, or those associated with either.

    What are the costs of membership?

    Membership is an annual fee of $40. Of which $20 supports our State Organization, Landlords of Iowa, Inc.

    When are the meetings?

    Meetings are held the 4th Thursday of every month (except November, which is the 3rd, and December, none) in the Lamp Room at the Frontier Best Western, Hwy 30 & 67.

  • To promote the spirit of and comply with Fair Housing laws in order to achieve equal housing opportunities for all.
  • To properly maintain and safeguard all property under our care, meeting or exceeding all appropriate housing and health and life safety codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • To respect the rights of others by preserving and enhancing private property rights and the free enterprise system.
